At the age of four, Canadian violinist Debra Fast launched into her musical studies. At fifteen she began appearing on Canadian television with performances on both piano and violin and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1998. Since then, she has turned her focus to the violin, playing throughout the world as a soloist as well as with many chamber groups and orchestras including the Fidelio and Armadillo quartets, the Vancouver Opera orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, the Ottawa Symphony, the North Shore Sinfonia and the orchestras of Abbotsford, Prince George and the Okanagan. In 2006 Debra Fast moved to Italy where she began an intense concert activity, directing her attentions to the solo violin repertoire, often collaborating with important composers of today. Recently she returned from two tours of Japan; first with the internationally renown Puccini Festival Foundation, and then with acclaimed pianist Sandro Ivo Bartoli for the World Premiere performances of “Fantasia for Violin and Piano”, a work written for them by Italian Maestro Luciano Damarati. In 2016 she premiered “A Wild Rose Grows Through an Old Tuscan Road”, a work for solo violin written for her by Canadian composer Graig Robertson, which she also recorded for a special CD release by the Tuscan Regional Government. In 2019 she premiered “An Ancient Melody”, another work written for her, this time by Italian composer, Vito Lafiandra, and finally in 2022 “Aurora sul Lago di Garda”, by Kristin Flores. At the center of her public activity is Suono Solo, an original project created in 2014 with which Debra Fast explores over four hundred years of music for unaccompanied violin: exciting occasions in which, beside the musical giants such as Bach, Bloch, Prokofiev and Paganini, Ms. Fast presents lesser known works, resulting in unique and fascinating programs. Suono Solo provides an ideal platform to promote works by Canadian composers such as Flores, Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté and Jean Coulthard beside the ancient wisdom of the great Italians like Tartini, Geminiani, Paganini, and Locatelli. The long months of lockdown during the recent pandemic lead Debra into a natural introspection resulting in a stimulating collaboration with Canadian composer Kristin Flores in what Debra Fast calls a “pandemic partnership”. Since the summer of 2020 Ms Fast has recorded two solo violin works of Ms. Flores, “An Evening Song”, and “In the Mountains”, both of which are now part of the National Archive of Canadian music, the Canadian Music Centre. The cooperation between Fast and Flores continues to flourish, the most recent result being “Unesco Heritage,” a work for violin and orchestra which Debra premiered in Calgary on June 11th, 2023. As these uncertain times continue to affect so many, Debra Fast decided to use her music to help those in need. On April 23, 2022 Ms. Fast performed a benefit concert for the victims of war with the music of Domenico Scarlatti. Her 2021 recording of the complete sonatas for violin and basso continuo by Scarlatti recently caught the attention of the prestigious Early Music magazine of Oxford Academia Press. She will be performing these stunning works at Garda Musik Week in August 2023 alongside Andrei Gavrilov and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Debra Fast performs on a mysterious violin inherited from her Great Grandfather who immigrated from Siberia to Canada following the Bolshevik revolution.

Nel 2016 ha dato la prima esecuzione assoluta di “A Wild Rose Grows Through an Old Tuscan Road”, lavoro per violino solo scritto per lei dal compositore canadese Graig Robertson, che Debra Fast ha inciso in un’edizione speciale in CD per la Regione Toscana. Nel 2019 ha eseguito la prima mondiale di “An Ancient Melody”, altro lavoro scritto per lei dall’italiano Vito Lafiandra, ed infine nel 2022 “Aurora sul Lago di Garda”, di Kristin Flores.
